Testing alarms is something Comtronics highly recommends you do once a month. It is a simple process, which could help notify you of potential problems with your alarm system. Below are some simple instructions for testing alarms.

1. Call in to the Comtronics alarm center at 517-787-1016. When asked, give your passcode to the operator and let them know how much time you will need to complete your test. This will ensure that any alarms sent to our monitoring station will be handled properly.

2. Arm your system. After the system is completely armed, you will want to trip all the alarms you want to test. If you are testing doors, simply open the doors then close them. If you are testing motion alarms, walk in front of the detectors. Note: if you are only testing fire alarms or holdup alarms, you will not need to arm your system. Also, alarms which you have more than one of (like fire alarms or holdups) may all be labeled the same way. Allow a minute to a minute and a half between testing each alarm.

3. Call the alarm center back. When you are done testing you will want to check your test to make sure that all of your alarms signaled in to the alarm center. The operator will read back to you what signals came in to the alarm center. If a signal was not received, you might want to retest. If you have other concerns, you can speak with the service department or you can request a service call.
