The nation’s case of the nerves has been a boost for the
security industry. Municipalities are adding alarms to protect water systems,
schools are installing cameras, businesses are putting in electronic pass-key
systems and private individuals are purchasing “panic buttons” that can be
purchased to summon help in case of emergency, said John A. Campau, president
and CEO of Comtronics, a Jackson electronic security and telecommunications
business.
The security division of the business is up 50 percent and has
added seven employees, including sales staff, installers and alarm monitors to
keep up with the new business, Campau said.
Business also is up nationally since the attacks, according to
the Security Industry Association in Alexandria, Va., a trade organization
representing both manufacturers and vendors.
“We’re seeing an incredible increase in awareness,” Campau
said.
